Dorset Opera Festival 2014

Yet another Dorset Opera has passed. I was again at Bryanston School in Blandford, Dorset to photograph this years productions of Aida and The Flying Dutchman. The lighting was slightly more difficult this year with many more darker scenes, however a recent purchase of a Canon Mark III made life a lot easier.

It is always fantastic to turn up and watch the singers practising for a couple of days. It is always something completely new for me and certainly a learning experience every time. I always make sure to cover as many angles of the performances as possible to keep the director happy. The turn around of the 1000 or so pictures which I take is usually half a day before they are to go to press. Lightroom, a good idea and some external help provides me with a good platform to deliver the pictures on time.

I love how you captured the moment on this photograph, and the vivid red colours of the costumes are superb. You’ve done well, the light on this picture looks fine to me. Great job!

The emotion captured in this photograph is breath-taking. Without a single spoken word I can feel the emotion and drama. The costumes and backdrop only enhance the beauty!
